Kerala Rubber Market Prices down by Rs 15 in a month.
Rubber prices have declined by Rs 15 in the last one month. RSS-4 rubber price touched Rs 150 on Tuesday. The fall in prices in the international market and the increase in production are now reflected in the market. Rubber prices had risen to Rs 165 in early December. Now is the time for rubber production to rise. Production in November was 87,000 tonnes. Production is expected to touch at least one lakh tonnes by December. The rise in rubber imports over the last four months has also weighed on the domestic market. Over 30,000 tonnes of rubber has been imported in the last four months. It is the middle class farmers who are suffering due to the fall in prices. The Rubber Dealers’ Federation had submitted a petition to the Chief Minister seeking an increase in the price limit for rubber farmers to Rs 200 per kg from the state government’s price stabilization scheme.

But the coming season of highest production is likely to affect the market. Demand from China and new changes in the corona virus environment, the start of corona vaccination and fluctuations in crude oil prices may affect market movements. In the past, natural rubber has come under pressure both in the domestic market and abroad. The unfavorable weather conditions affected the supply, the unavailability of labor and the fungal outbreak of rubber cultivation in Thailand limited the losses. Going forward, the new market conditions may prevent a sharp fall.
